Retail Sales Clerk - Part-Time General Summary Obtains or receives merchandise, totals bill, accepts payment, and makes change for customers in retail store by performing the following duties. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Stocks shelves, counters, or tables with merchandise. Sets up advertising displays or arranges merchandise on counters or tables to promote sales. Stamps, marks, or tags price on merchandise. Obtains merchandise requested by customer or receives merchandise selected by customer. Answers customer's questions concerning location, price, and use of merchandise. Totals price and tax on merchandise purchased by customer to determine bill. Accepts payment and makes change. Wraps or bags merchandise for customers. Cleans shelves, counters, or tables. Vacuums floors. Calculates sales discount to determine price. Keeps record of sales, prepares inventory of stock, and orders merchandise. Sells on-line and instant lottery tickets. Completes cashier balancing form at the end of day for both the Lottery and Shoppe and makes deposits to the bank. Starting cash for next business day, including small bills and change should be obtained from bank. Education and/or Experience High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Language Skills Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other staff members of the organization. Mathematical Skills Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Must be able to use American currency to make change. Must be able to use calculator. Reasoning Ability Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Computer Skills To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Inventory software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.
